Medicare Eligibility
Medicare eligible women will cover a portion of the cost of your care. The amount will vary depending on your individual circumstances. In some instances, this will be determined by if you have met the family ‘Safety Net’ or the ‘Extended Safety Net’. Therefore, there will be some out-of-pocket costs for midwifery services.

Do I need private health cover to access midwifery care from M.I.L.A. Midwifery?
No, you do not need to have private health cover to access private midwifery care. However, if you already have a private health cover, then you may receive subsidy on some midwifery services. It is recommended that you contact your private health insurer for further information on available rebates.
Can I still access private midwifery care if I already have a private or public maternity care provider?
Yes, it is your choice which maternity care service you choose. Midwifery care by M.I.L.A. Midwifery can be a collaboration and extended service with other forms of midwifery care provision.

Midwifery Care Plan
The Midwifery Care Plan is a longer consultation and although costs more upfront, attracts a larger Medicare rebate.

​Referral
There is no referral required to access midwifery care from M.I.L.A. Midwifery. However, to fulfill some of the Medicare requirements, we may ask your shared care provider to provide a referral.
